A 3-year-old child was found unresponsive in a pool at a Crestview residence on Saturday, April 6, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

  • The child was pulled from the water, and an off-duty EMT immediately began performing lifesaving measures until the arrival of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Okaloosa County EMS.

The child was transported to North Okaloosa Medical Center by Okaloosa County EMS, where a team of medical staff and Med Flight nurses worked tirelessly to administer life-saving efforts and medical intervention.

After approximately one hour of being unresponsive, the medical team successfully regained a pulse and signs of life in the child. The child was then stabilized and flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola for further treatment.

Lt. Tony Kelly of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office praised the collaborative efforts of the medical professionals involved, stating, “Outstanding work by every hand that touched the child after such a tragic accident. In all my years, I have never seen such a large group of medical professionals work so seamlessly and diligently for such a long period of time without ever losing hope or will.”
