Destin High School buys church campus

The Governing Board of Destin High School, Inc. announced their plans to move forward into a contract to purchase Destin United Methodist Church’s Beach Drive campus, with the goal of opening Destin High School in August of 2020.

Initially, Destin High School will have 9th and 10th grade inaugural classes. The following year the high school will expand to offer 9th, 10th and 11th, and then all four high school grades, in year three. Additionally, the board has committed to offering most high school sports programs, as requested by parents and prospective students.

A vote was taken on Sunday, July 14 by parishioners of Destin United Methodist Church and their HELM (their Administrative Counsel) that ultimately decided Destin High School could move forward with their desire to purchase the site. Next, they will enter a due diligence phase, followed by a move forward to formally purchase the property.

What’s next for Destin United Methodist Church

Destin United Methodist Church announced plans to purchase Grace Lutheran Church’s campus and Grace Lutheran plans to lease the Destin United Methodist Church sanctuary from Destin High School, while they (Grace Lutheran) search for property for their new church home.

This vote will allow Destin United Methodist Church to enter into contracts to sell their property (8+ acres) to Destin High School and to purchase the Grace Lutheran Church campus.

Destin High School has offered to allow Jacob’s Ladder Preschool to continue operating on the Beach Drive campus, for 1-2 years, as needed, while their new educational space is being designed.
