In a press conference earlier today, the Fort Walton Beach Police Department released new info on last night’s shooting. The suspect and victims involved in last night’s shooting were from Houston, TX., and were here in Fort Walton Beach to help with Hurricane Michael relief efforts in Panama City.

While in a company van, an altercation took place and shots were fired into the van from the parking lot. Two individuals were struck.

The suspect fled the scene and was reported in the area of Elm Avenue where he was later apprehended.

The two individuals who were shot were transported to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for their injuries. One victim, who was shot in the leg, was treated and released. The other victim, who was struck in the abdomen, later succumbed to her injuries around 11:30PM.

On October 31, 2018 at approximately 8:36pm, Officers with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department responded to the area of First Street and Brooks Street to a report of subjects with gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, witnesses/victims reported that a subject, known by them, opened fire on their vehicle. This occurred while the vehicle was stopped at the Greyhound Bus Station, located at 101 Perry Avenue. The vehicle was driven away and stopped at First Street and Brooks Street.

Two people were injured during the incident, and later transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for treatment. The condition of the victims is unknown at this time.

Fort Walton Beach Police Officers and Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office flooded the area and were able to detain the suspect a short distance away from the scene. The case is currently under investigation, further information will follow.
