This morning on Instagram Live, Walton County’s Sheriff Adkinson reported that dozens of homes have been lost in the wildfire that spread across 600 acres in South Walton.
For the families that have lost their homes, or want to know if they’ve lost their home, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office is setup at the South Walton High School to assist. Once there, residents are asked to show a deputies your identification and let them know what area you live in. From there, a Sheriff’s Deputy will help escort you safely so that you can check on your property or home.
“I need to forewarn you, it’s a very bad fire scene,” said Sheriff Adkinson. “Dozens of home have been devastated. We ask our friends and neighbors in Walton County to keep these families in their prayers. It’s so arbitrary because one home next to a brick home may have burned and the wood home may not have burned. It’s just that random.”
WCSO will restrict movement in the Thompson Road area if you do not have a legit reason to be there.
South Walton High School is located at 645 Greenway Trail, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459.
The Florida Forest Service has deployed 15 tractor plow units and 2 engines, and is also working with local fire departments; 2 additional dozer strike teams are en route. Approximately 500 residents have been evacuated.
