On Friday morning, Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference in Jacksonville where he announced the opening of gyms across Florida in what he called a “full” Phase One.

Beginning May 18th, gyms can begin to reopen.

Gyms were not included in the first phase of the governor’s plan to reopen Florida. The Governor cited his desire to move “safe and smart” through the initial opening phase.

“This is a virus that, if you’re in good shape, you’re probably going to be OK,” DeSantis said on Thursday. “So, why would we want to dissuade people from going to be in shape?”

Effective Monday, gyms can reopen with social distancing and sanitizing procedures in place.

Additionally, restaurants can go to 50% indoor seating capacity, along with retail, libraries and museums moving to 50% capacity as well.
