During the 2019 Labor Day holiday, the Fort Walton Beach Police Department will partner with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to get drunk drivers off the roads and help save lives.

The high-visibility national enforcement campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, runs from August 14 through September 2, 2019. During this period, local law enforcement will show zero tolerance for drunk driving. Increased state and national messages about the dangers of driving impaired, coupled with enforcement and increased officers on the road, aim to drastically reduce drunk driving on our nation’s roadways.

On Saturday, August 31st, 2019, the Fort Walton Beach Police Department, with participation from other local Law Enforcement agencies, will conduct a Comprehensive Roadside Safety Checkpoint to coincide with this campaign. The goal of the checkpoint will be to apprehend impaired drivers, enforce Florida Motor Vehicle Statutes to include driver’s license checks, and to provide a visual deterrent to passing motorists.
