A camper fire in Crestview on Friday resulted in one fatality, as firefighters responded to two separate blazes within an hour.

  • At 12:13 p.m., just 33 minutes after responding to an RV fire, the Crestview Fire Department was dispatched to a camper fire off Mapoles Street. Reports indicated someone was trapped inside the burning vehicle.

Crestview’s Engine 1, which had been wrapping up operations at the first RV fire, quickly responded to the scene. North Okaloosa Fire Department was called for mutual aid to supplement manpower, as other Crestview units were still engaged at the initial incident.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the camper nearly engulfed in flames, with witnesses reporting several explosions. Crews from Engine 1 immediately began suppression efforts and established a water supply.

Shortly after their arrival, firefighters confirmed that an individual had been inside the camper at the time of the fire and was unable to escape. The fire was brought under control within approximately 10 minutes of the firefighters’ arrival.

  • No fire department personnel were injured during the incident.

The investigation into the fire is being conducted by law enforcement. The fire department did not immediately determine the cause of the fire or identify the victim.

Assisting agencies included the Crestview Police Department, Okaloosa County EMS, North Okaloosa Fire Department, and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office. Engine 1 remained on scene after the fire was extinguished, cooling hot spots and awaiting the arrival of the Florida State Fire Marshal.
