It looks like a new hotel is coming to Okaloosa Island.

On Tuesday, February 18th, the Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve plans for The Maxwell – Okaloosa Island.

The Maxwell will be a 5-story, 70-room hotel roughly 62,000 sqft in size on the southeast corner of Santa Rosa Boulevard and Sundial Court.

While there wasn’t much discussion on the project, Commissioner Boyles did raise the concern of beach access for those future guests at The Maxwell, citing the fact that it will not be a beachfront hotel. Emerald Towers West condominiums occupies the land between The Maxwell and the beach.

Guests at The Maxwell will have to make use of one of the public access points along Okaloosa Island.

No word yet on when construction will start.
