John and Melissa Henderson of Freeport created Johnny’s Snowcones not only as a business opportunity, but also as an opportunity to make memories. Ironically, when they first met, Melissa was working in a snow cone stand outside of Anglers on Okaloosa Island. This was a driving factor of picking snow cones over anything else they could have made.

Local businessman donates 100K for Okaloosa Island bike path 🚴♀️💰
Jay Odom reportedly donated $100k to Okaloosa County to improve the safety on Highway 98 on Okaloosa Island.
According to the Northwest Florida Daily News,
Odom on Monday announced a pledge of $100,000 for construction of a bridge-to-bridge pathway between Brooks Bridge in Fort Walton Beach and the Marler Bridge in Destin for bicyclists and joggers on Okaloosa Island.

Professional volleyball national qualification tournament planned for Navarre Beach
The Association of Volleyball Professionals’ Gulf Zonal Championships will take place March 23-24 at newly developed courts located adjacent to Springhill Suites on Navarre Beach.
“This is a huge opportunity for our juniors in the panhandle to qualify for the AVPFirst championships in Hermosa Beach, California.”

Fishing fleet to sue city of Destin 😱
The Destin Fishing Fleet has filed a lawsuit against the City of Destin claiming a $14.6 million decrease in the fleet’s property value thanks to “various amendments”, according to The Destin Log.
Naturally, the Fishing Fleet rejected the City’s $12,000 settlement offer.
“Since the establishment of the (city’s Community Redevelopment Area) in 2003, the (fleet’s overall) property has been impacted by three different changes to the comprehensive plan.”
