The Tow Truck scam in Destin
I think it’s only fair to start today’s Rundown with the tow truck story. The headline screams “TELL ME MORE!” Sunday afternoon one of the longest Facebook posts I think I’ve ever seen was published and tells the story of a tow truck scam happening at the Palmetto Plaza. Here’s what happened…Tammy Pugh and her husband went to eat at AJ’s and parked in the Palmetto Plaza parking lot across Highway 98. When they came out their truck was towed.
In all fairness she says they didn’t see the sign but remembers other people parking there too..specifically a Ford F-150 that pulled up along with them. After they went to get cash to pay to get their truck back, they go back to look for the tow-away zone sign. And that’s when she sees the same Ford F-150 pulling up again to watch and help notify the tow truck company.
It’s a sucky situation because having your ride towed is no fun at all, especially if you didn’t see the sign(s). There is a reason that parking lot is completely dead in the evening because we know your ass will get towed. To read the entire post and comments, click here.
Duo tests limits of beach access in Walton County
So if you follow us on Facebook, you might have seen that video of real estate attorney Daniel Uhlfelder trying to define the “wet sand line” with Deputies after having law enforcement called on him for trespassing (being on the beach). In an interview with WEARTV, Uhlfelder said “I felt I was somewhere between “The Twilight Zone” and “Alice in Wonderland.” The sheriff was very nice and I didn’t get the impression they wanted to be there. I think they have more important things to do”. No one was arrested but a second town hall meeting to discuss the issue will be held at South Walton High School gymnasium at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lone Manatee cruisin’ the coastline
Drone company Birds Iview captured this amazing footage of the manatee headed to Destin from South Walton. In a Facebook post the company said, “One of the most docile mammals on earth graced beachgoers today on Florida’s Emerald Coast. This Manatee Was heading from South Walton to Destin in about 5′ of water.”
About that “Fort Walton Beach: What We Did” Facebook group
Super cool article from the Beachcomber on Gareth Stearns, the man behind the 20,000 member group on Facebook! I’ve been a member for a few years now and I absolutely love the content that gets posted there. As someone who has lived here my entire life and heard stories about places that no longer exist, this group helps visual those stories. I encourage you to read the article and then join the group!
High levels of fecal matter (sigh)…
It’s a shitty way of ending The Roundup but it’s important. The Northwest Florida Daily News is reporting high levels of fecal matter at Liza Jackson Park in Fort Walton Beach and Rocky Bayou State Park in Niceville. Be smart and stay out of the water. To read the entire story, click here.
That’s all we have today. Make sure you follow on Facebook and the ‘gram throughout the day for other awesome shareable content!
