New Rules for alcohol at Crab Island, Harvest House Heist & A New Restaurant in Destin

To: Daily Rundown Readers

Bye Bye Booze at Crab Island

You don’t have to say bye bye to all the booze at Crab Island, just the free kind. County Commissioner Nathan Boyles explained in a video the new ban on “giving away” alcohol with the purchase of food or a non-alcoholic beverage at Crab Island has been put into affect Nov 1st, of this year. This was passed unanimously and is put in place to crack down on the unregulated flow of free alcohol at Crab Island. Don’t worry, you can still bring all the free beer you want with you… and you should invite us!

The second part of the new ordinance includes no overnight mooring, to take in affect Nov 2019. Boyles stated that in a year he wants to review the initial implementation, get citizens together and listen to their opinion on what needs to be changed for this part of the new ordnance on Crab Island, which is very nice of him.

The Harvest House Heist

The saying goes, “no good deed goes unpunished” and unfortunately that’s the case for the Harvest House in Destin, a Christian, non-profit organization that houses a thrift store and food pantry. They were robbed, very nonchalantly I might add, Monday night around 1am. The video on Facebook shows two ladies casually going through and taking donated goods after making a trip to… it looks like Taco Bell?

Harvest House is sad to report that “after hours theft & vandalism of donated items are a real issue” for them. If anyone recognizes anyone in the video, please contact the Harvest House of Destin.

Go With the FLOW

Florida Licensing On Wheels visited the Walton County Jail yesterday to issue over 35 inmates new ID cards and licenses. The video from Walton County Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson, JR. shows a very grateful inmate getting his new ID card and expressing how he thinks the FLOW program is useful.

Prohibition Themed Restaurant Coming to Destin

A new Italian-American restaurant, Divieto Ristorante, is coming to the Destin Commons where La Famiglia and formerly the Hard Rock used to be, the Walton Sun reported. This will be the restaurant’s fourth location and first in the Florida Panhandle. They are aiming for an October opening for this “1920s New York Italian” themed restaurant. Even though during the 1920’s prohibition was in full swing, Divieto will in fact, have a full bar. Here are more details on the opening.

Florida to Restrict Shore-Based Shark Fishing

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted last April to impose limits on shore-based shark fishing. During the April meeting, some commissioners said the activity showed a disrespect for wildlife, particularly when people hold open the mouth of the beached sharks and perch on their backs. According to The Destin Log, the controversial fishing practice of catching large sharks from shore could be banned from many of Florida’s beaches, restricted to nighttime hours or subjected to other limits, under options being considered to protect both swimmers and the sharks.
