Crab Island businesses say, “It’s gonna kill my business”
Ok, so the Crab Island regulations were a hot topic last week with the news that overnight mooring will be no more as well as ceasing the “sale, distribution or consumption of alcoholic beverages on various commercial floating structures or vessels” at Crab Island. With many businesses unsure of where they would transport their floating structures every night during the season, many feel like this will put them out of business and say it’s 100% politics. In an interview with The Destin Log, Stan Shipp, owner of WaterWorld Destin, said “It’s gonna kill my business one way or the other. They didn’t leave us with many, or any, options at all.” To read more of the interview along with other business owners, click here.

Pay-to-park gaining popularity
You just about have to pay for parking in any large city that you visit. It was only a matter of time before it would come to Destin. But, even with all of the negativity, paying to park has worked out well for the City of Destin. According to The Destin Log, it has been a profitable decision with the city making $20,577 on parking fees since May of this year. To use a city’s parking lot costs $1 for the first hour and 50 cents for each additional hour after that. To read more about what the city plans to do with the money, click here.
