Market 21 to open in Fort Walton Beach

A brand new local market that offers fresh seafood, hot plates, meat and other local items is set to open in early October on the Corner of Hollywood Blvd and Jet Drive, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News. This new concept will feature a drive through window so customers have the convince of ordering their groceries online and picking them up at the window. 4 people have died at Crab Island this summer

The Captain of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has had enough. Captain Ted Pecot told WEAR TV that drownings at Crab Island are happening far too often. According to Pecot, this year’s reported drownings have spiked and are getting out of control. 4 people have died at or near Crab Island this year. Pecot also stated that there is a “bad mix” of businesses that are serving alcohol to “that many of people in that small of an area”. Mosquitoes, Alligators and … BEARS? Oh my!

It’s no secret that we have to watch our for bears in our area of Florida. I saw one myself just last week as I was driving down Lewis Turner Blvd!! Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture but a local Elementary School teacher managed to snap a photo of one in the playground of her school! Okaloosa non-profit funding gets competitive

Every business is gearing up for the 2019 fiscal year, the Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners included. The Destin Log reported that after reviewing funding requests, totaling more than $290,000 from almost a dozen nonprofit entities, County Commissioner Nathan Boyles says that there is a need to have a competitive funding application process for various nonprofits. The new policy could require each applicant to show that it proactively performs a “core government service”. Here is the full story.

Panama City plans for an “active adult” community

Calling all Parrot Heads! Panama City Beach Mayor says that his city is transitioning into a “family-friendly” tourist area. The St. Joe Company owns about 15 miles of land near the Inter-coastal Waterway and has announced that they have partnered with Jimmy Buffet’s Maragaritaville to open a “new (type) of retirement community…they are not retiring, they are transitioning”. They’re calling it Latitude Margaritaville, according to WJHG. They estimate to to be open by 2020 and for people 55+. Read all about it here.
