Good morning! Let’s get to it!
No more trash pickup on private beaches 🗑
I think it was only a matter a time before this would happen in Walton County. Anyone who has been following the customary use issue knew that this was a possibility: Walton County is stopping trash pickup on private beaches. According to the Walton Sun, while some homeowners backed off of the request to keep county employees off of “their beach”, there weren’t enough. Not wanting to risk an arrest of county employees “trespassing”, as of August 13 all owners will be responsible for picking up their own beach trash. To read the entire article, click here.
Shift the focus from putting heads in beds to investing in quality of life improvements for our residents 🙌
Destin City Councilman Parker Destin took to Facebook on Tuesday evening to propose an idea to “shift the focus from putting heads in beds to investing in quality of life improvements for our residents” in Destin/Okaloosa. Here’s what he wrote:
With the Public v. Private beach debate raging, did you know that it’s been over two decades since Destin or Okaloosa County dedicated new Gulf beaches for the benefit of residents and tourists? Yet nearly all new development in those +20 years has been on the north side of our beach roads where infrequent and narrow beach accesses to the wet sand are the only way the general public can get to our beaches? As a new member of the Okaloosa TDC, it’s my opinion that we are long overdue to reinvest in road infrastructure and amenity expansion for the benefit of locals and general public. We need to shift our focus from putting heads in beds to investing in quality of life improvements for our residents because if Destin/Okaloosa is a good place to live, it’ll be a good place to visit. It’s time to acquire more public beaches.
So what are your thoughts? Head over to Parker’s Facebook post and let him know!
