Petition to repeal HB 631, Drownings at Crab Island and a NEW dine-in Mexican restaurant

To: Daily Rundown Readers

A new petition calls for the repeal of HB 631

Trey Nick has gotten more than 1,300 signatures on a petition calling for the repeal of House Bill 631. He’s also running for the Walton County Commissioner District 4 spot. In a Facebook post, Nick wrote, “My position is clear: we must do everything possible to protect public use of the beach and to protect our economy. There are those who claim they are unwilling to demand a repeal of 631 or to go to court.” Residents who have signed the petition also wrote similar comments but some think Nick is just using this topic to his advantage. In an interview with the Northwest Florida Daily News, Bill Fletcher, who is running against Nick in District 4, said Nick is “obviously playing up the customary use thing” because it is “a hot-button issue.” To read more on the story, click here. Looking for a cause for so many drownings at Crab Island

There have been 4 drownings this Summer at Crab Island, this according to The Destin Log. Opinions on the cause of the drownings vary with some suspecting that the dredging around Norriego Point may have “influenced the currents”, while others believe there are just too many people out there now and drownings will be inevitable .
