Good morning! It will be a bit of a rainy Tuesday ☔️ but let’s get to the Rundown first!
Local breweries have become one of my favorite things about our area. I don’t think you can have too many because each one brings their own unique approach to craft beer. Props Brewery just opened their Niceville location in the old Helen Back and will feature small brew tanks. 3rd Planet Brewing opened their 2nd location less than a mile from Props this Summer. Then there are 2 brand new breweries: St. Michael’s Brewery in Navarre and Fort Walton Beach Brewing Co. in…well, Fort Walton Beach.
According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, Fort Walton Beach Brewing Co. will be a nano brewery and allow amateur brewers to practice their recipes in the small tanks. The cool thing about all of the breweries is that they don’t see each other as competition but help and support each other! To read the entire article on the breweries, click here.
Lock your car, take your keys, hide your valuables
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office posted this photo on Monday showing car burglaries just this year in South Okaloosa County. In the post the Sheriff’s Office writes, “Each red pin represents a car burglary this year in the south end of Okaloosa County alone. At least 15 car burglaries were reported Sunday in Destin. Every single car was unlocked!!! Five firearms were stolen, along with a cash box, three sets of keys, and one car.” We all forgot sometimes to lock up, but let’s try to be better about the second half of the year!
Sunpass investigation
Sen. Bill Nelson is back in the local headlines. This time he is asking for a federal investigation into a company that manages the Sunpass toll system through the state, according to a recent report from the Northwest Florida Daily News. Nelson is accusing the company of mismanagement thanks to an upgrade to the system that resulted in delayed and inaccurate charges. To read the full scoop, click here.
Destin Fishing Rodeo might have triggerfish this year
October is approaching and the Destin Fishing Rodeo is considering adding triggerfish to the month-long event this year. The Pensacola News Journal reported that grey triggerfish will reopen for harvest on August 1st after being closed for the months of June and July. Talking with The Destin Log, Destin Rodeo Chairman John Brashears said, “If they happen to still be available … still legal to catch in October we’re gong to put them on the daily board.” Pensacola News Journal further added that the season should remain open until October 31st of this year unless the quota is reached earlier.
The start of a rainy week
Not that we are your weather resource or anything, but just a heads up…today will start what will be a rainy rest of the week. As usual, people will forget how to drive so be a little more cautious on the roads! School is starting in less than 2 weeks so if you need a cool indoor activity this week, maybe give Rock Out Climbing Gym in Destin a try! (It’s fully ac’d!)
That’s all we’ve got for today. Make sure you follow us on Facebook and the ‘gram throughout the day for other awesome shareable content!
