Good morning! It’s Monday, no rain…let’s get to it!
We don’t normally post anything related to arrests since there are other outlets for that. But there is so much that I need to know about what I’m seeing in these images. On Sunday, August 5, 2018 at around 1:00pm, Melissa Gaines posted 3 pictures on Facebook captioned, “Just when you thought the mall was boring… 😂😂”.
The 3 pictures show a naked man running from Okaloosa County Deputies and what looks like a mall security guard. The first 2 pictures show our naked suspect running from the Food Court entrance toward the parking lot with the Deputies chasing after him.
In the third picture we see naked man apprehended at the end of the parking lot by Page Bacon Road. Our suspect, naked and cuffed, stands watching as another Deputy venture into the ditch and appears to be looking for something. No word yet from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department on what went down…but it certainly wasn’t the normal Sunday activity at the Santa Rosa Mall.
“If someone is set up anywhere on the beach in Destin and they’re within 20 feet of the water’s edge, we will not arrest them for trespassing”
The fight continues over public vs. private beaches and this time the focus is on Destin, rather than Walton County. The Destin Log released an article “highlighting that the vast majority of the city’s six miles of beach are private, marked off with ropes and no trespassing signs, and guarded closely by territorial beach chair vendors.”
In an interview with The Destin Log, one vacationer said he was paying $6,000/week to rent a home across from the Gulf only to find out that he would have to fight for a spot on the 60ft wide public beach access every morning since the rest of the beaches were roped off.
At this point, there is no end in sight for the battle of the beaches. Luckily, the Okaloosa Sheriff’s Department has come out and said that they will not arrest beachgoers for trespassing or ask them to move if they are within 20ft of the water’s edge. Okaloosa Island residents have beef with sand being used for Holiday Isle
Okaloosa County plans to restore an eroded stretch of beach on Holiday Isle. According to The Destin Log, County officials are working on two possible scenarios to add about 200,000 cubic yards of sand to the area of beach that extends about 4,000 feet eastward from the east jetty. But those who live on Okaloosa Island feel like the some of the sand being dredged up should go on the Island’s beaches. To read more on the plans for the dredging, click here.
Choctaw wins Hoops for Hope…again
Well…Choctaw won again at Hoops For Hope. The Big Green Indians took home the W over the Vikings with Niceville beating Crestview as well on Saturday at Raider Arena. It all went down to help raise money and awareness for kids in our community battling cancer. No word yet on how much was raised, but we will report back with the totals once we know.
