Gulfview hotel to cost $500,000, Coach Lavin comes back for Seniors & local pantry is empty

To: Daily Rundown Readers

There it sits…in the public parking lot right next to Harris Insurance: The Gulfview Hotel. Growing what looks to be a heavy moss on the roof, the hotel is supposed to become a welcome center, the Billy Bowlegs museum and include leased office and meeting space. According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, the 112-year-old building’s renovation needs will cost roughly $500,000.

The City Council voted 5-1 on Tuesday to allow City Manager Michael Beedie to negotiate and execute a contract with Triple R Construction Inc. of Navarre for the job, with Councilman David Schmidt casting the only “no” vote. (Schmidt has been an advocate for not using taxpayer money for the renovations.) To read more on the issue, click here.

After 21 years, Coach Lavin made the decision to step down this past school year but it looks like he’s coming back for his Seniors. One senior, Alexis Nicole, tweeted, “Got up at 6am just to make my senior schedule & found out I’ll still be in @coachjlav wave. Here’s to 4 years going strong!! #lavwavebestwave”.

A quick look at the school’s website does indeed list him as a current faculty member. We’ve reached out to Coach Lavin for more info but in the meantime…Welcome back Coach!

Food For Thought needs your help!

Food For Thought Outreach Inc
Empty pantry at Food For Thought Outreach Inc.

This amazing non-profit is in serious need of food for their pantry. In a photo caption posted on their Facebook Page, the organization wrote: “Friends, we truly need your help. The pantries are literally bare and we are starting back to school, our most critical time of the year. Please find a way to help – volunteer your time, financially sponsor a student or school, or donate food or funds. We very much need your support right now. So many children are depending on people just like you and you can make all the difference in the world.

My wife and I helped pack backpacks at Food For Thought for a while and I got to see just how much of an impact this organization has on those young kids who need weekly access to healthy, easy to prepare meals. NOAA’s updated hurricane outlook

NOAA forecasters lower Atlantic Hurricane Season prediction
NOAA forecasters lower Atlantic Hurricane Season prediction

Thanks to El Niño, the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season is now predicted to be “below-normal”, according to WEAR TV. While these are only predictions and the hurricane season is far from over, NOAA has predicted 9-13 named storms, 4-7 hurricanes & 0-2 major hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher. Even with a “below-normal” prediction, it is still wise to be prepared!
