New school in South Walton, local airman’s song goes viral, Navarre dog was brutally killed

Dune Lakes Elementary in South Walton has been in the works for nearly 3 years and will be the first school built in South Walton in the last 20 years. According to the Walton Sun, all of the south-end school are over capacity with the number of students expected to grow. Construction is expected to be complete by Spring 2019. Local airman’s YouTube video goes viral

On his final day in the Air Force, a fellow airman captured Fort Walton Beach resident Brandon Lewis singing an original song and posted it on YouTube. As of this writing, that video has over 500,000 views! Lewis has also performed at Enlightened Studios in Downtown Fort Walton Beach and goes under the username of B.C. Lewis on YouTube. Disabled veteran seeking answers in dog’s brutal killing

Navarre resident Jessica Brown returned home on Wednesday evening to find one of her 4 dogs, Zoey, dead. According to Brown and the Northwest Florida Daily News, someone entered her back yard, kicked her dog in the face, broke her jaw and cut her neck so deep the spine was showing. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office was notified and is actively pursuing leads. To read more on this story, click here.

The Viking Band is hosting a Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament on Saturday, August 25th at the Elks Lodge on Okaloosa Island. Registration starts at 3pm with cards in the air beginning at 5. It’s a $30 donation to participate with re-buys and add-ons available on-site and all proceeds benefit the Viking Band to help with instruments, uniforms, supplies, transportation and so much more! Sacred Heart Foundation’s Preemie Cup event is on August 25th and will support the more than 1,100 babies treated every year in the NICU. This family friendly event will help support the construction of all private rooms in the new 72 bed level II and III NICUs in the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart. Registration forms can be found at givesacredheart.org and ticket prices vary based on event.
