FWB City Manager fires PIO, former FWBHS grad’s cheerleading video goes viral & Voting day details

After placing Public Information Officer Joanna Soria on disciplinary suspension last Wednesday, City Manager Michael Beedie fired her two days later, according to a new report from the Northwest Florida Daily News. Citing the need to move in a different direction, Beedie declined to give a specific reason as to her firing.

Soria told the Northwest Florida Daily News that after being placed on suspension, the city’s notice read: “The city manager has lost confidence and trust in your ability to perform the duties associated with your job. Prior disciplinary history: None.”

Former FWBHS cheerleader and grad goes viral

If you follow viral videos it would been hard to have miss this one! A video of former FWBHS cheerleader and graduate LaDarius Marshall has made its rounds to the tune of 12 million views. In the video, Marshall is seen cheering at a Navarro College football game Friday when his coach took a video of his expressive moves and posted it on Facebook, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News. Primary elections are today + voting precinct location changes

Today is the 2018 Primary Elections (so go vote), but there are also some voting precinct location changes. According to WEAR TV:

  • Precinct #42 is usually at a church near the back gate of Hurlburt Field, but has been moved to the Santa Rosa Mall
  • Precinct #45 will go to the Endine Building right across from Zaxby’s
  • Precincts #17 and #39 will double up at The Wright Baptist Church

Man convicted as juvenile in 2010 murder re-sentenced to life

Timothy Preston Chavers was twice convicted of murdering a Fort Walton Beach teenager during a 2010 drug robbery. He was re-sentenced Monday afternoon to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News.

Thanks to a 2014 ruling that said it wasn’t mandatory to sentence juveniles to life if they were convicted of first degree murder, Chavers was granted a hearing but was re-sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 17-year-old Christopher Pitcock.
