30a to close for the triathlon on Saturday
County Highway 30A will be intermittently closed from approximately 6-9:30am from U.S. Highway 98 near East Hewett to South County Highway 83. In addition, one eastbound lane of U.S. Highway 98 from Sandestin Blvd South to West County Highway 30A will be shut down.
Following concerns from the public, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office has decided not to close 30a until the first bike enters U.S. Highway 98 from Sandestin. This should keep the road open for approximately 30 minutes longer. In addition, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office will open the road as soon as the majority of riders are off 30a. The Sheriff’s Office will be assisting residents in the affected areas to leave and go to the nearest roadblock, as long as it is safe to do so and does not endanger any cyclists. However, no one will be permitted to re-enter the blocked area until we open it back up.
