“No gambling in Destin”, FWB Council to fill vacant seat, Walton County customary use hearing postponed

To: Daily Rundown Readers

The Destin City Council unanimously approved an ordinance that prohibits most types of gambling in the city last Wednesday, according to The Destin Log. In a report it stated that this was in the City’s best interest because “gambling exploits the poor and disadvantaged, the increased availability of gambling leads to gambling addiction and gambling attracts fraud and corruption.”

According to reports, the purpose of the new ordinance is to “broadly prohibit any form of gambling” other than bingo and state lotteries within the city limits. To read more on the new ban, click here.

Crestview Teens in a stolen car

Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office captured three Crestview teens who tried to flee in a stolen car and then hide out in someone’s apartment Saturday evening. An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy on patrol spotted a black Kia that had been reported stolen out of Panama City August 14th. He attempted a traffic stop on North Pearl Street in Crestview but the driver fled, speeding and disregarding traffic signs. Once the car stopped, three males ran from the scene and were found hiding in an apartment at Hero’s Landing. When contacted, the owner said they did not have permission to be there.

Inside the apartment deputies found a Glock 9 mm pistol reported stolen to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office earlier this year partially hidden underneath the couch. They also found a Glock magazine and marijuana. One teen, who is 17, is charged with armed trespassing, grand theft of a firearm, principal to grand theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana.

18-year old Isaiah Durham, the suspected driver of the stolen car, is charged with fleeing police with disregard to the safety of others, trespassing, principal to grand theft of a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest. Another 17-year old is charged with principal to grand theft of a motor vehicle, trespassing, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana.
