After an almost 2 year court battle with local businessman Dewey Destin, the Destin City Council reached a settlement agreement that was focused on an easement at the upcoming Capt. Royal Melvin Heritage Park and Plaza. The initial issue was that the City put up a fence around the property that Destin’s employees and other workers used to get to the harbor, according to The Destin Log.
In the new agreement, BI Inc. and Dewey Destin Harborside LLC will quit claim their rights to access the easement as long as the city complies with a long list of conditions. To read more on the settlement and the conditions that must be met, click here.
Reconstruction of MainSail Drive set to begin
Drivers may encounter temporary day and nighttime lane closures on Mainsail Drive and County Road (C.R.) 2378. Traffic flaggers will be on site to safely direct drivers through the work zone. The work is scheduled for completion early 2019.
The enhancements on Mainsail Drive and at the U.S.98-C.R. 2378 intersection are part of the $42 million project to widen and improve U.S. 98, between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive in Walton County. The widening project is slated for completion in summer 2020.
All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through the work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
TRU by Hilton
The Destin Commons may be the next location for TRU by Hilton that would feature 117 rooms at the southeast corner of Henderson Beach Drive and Commons Drive. TRU by Hilton describes itself as “a brand-new hotel experience from Hilton that’s vibrant, affordable and young-at-heart. It’s energetic, yet relaxing and comfortable.” To read more on the proposed plan, click here.
Rick Scott avoids protesters at SRB Donut Hole and hits up the Inlet Beach location
Roughly 30 protesters showed up outside the Santa Rosa Beach Donut Hole location to protest Gov. Scott mainly over his decision to sign into law HB 631. The only problem was that the Governor changed his plans and hit up the Donut Hole’s Inlet Beach location instead. According to the Walton Sun, many who came to the Donut Hole in Santa Rosa beach thought that Scott had deliberately avoided showing up so he wouldn’t have to hear their complaints.
