Just two days after the Milton teen committed suicide a video surfaced allegedly showing Joey McGlone being beaten at the Guy Thompson Community Center on September 7th. Joey’s mother, Dana McGlone, told WEAR TV that the police knew he was being bullied and never notified the parents.
On Monday night a candlelight vigil was held to remember the life of 16-year-old who died by suicide on September 13. Milton Police are investigating the attack and are trying to identify the people involved.
Breaking ground on the new Public Works facility in FWB
If you’ve been wondering what happened to the ballfields on Jet Drive and what the future plans hold, well, here they are. City and project officials broke ground Monday morning on the new 50,000 sqft complex that will consolidate multiple city departments from various sites into one location, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News. Destin to answer questions on possible electric plant purchase
On Monday, the Destin City Council agreed to have the city’s special counsel help provide answers to residents’ FAQs about the city’s possible purchase of Gulf Power’s electric plant and other property in Destin. According to The Destin Log, the questions include those that ask about the cost of such a purchase, the annual operating cost and revenues of a city-owned electric utility, and the city’s ability to quickly restore electricity after it’s knocked out by a major storm.
With their 30-year franchise agreement with Gulf Power set to expire on September 21st, the Destin City Council agreed to preserves the city’s right to purchase Gulf Power’s electric plant and other property within the city. Based on a 2017 estimate, it would cost to City of Destin $71 million (likely higher) to buy the utility system. To read more on the upcoming Q&A, click here.
