Walton’s customary beach hearing scheduled, Manatee drinking from a hose, Good Samaritan saves Deputy

Walton County officials have rescheduled their customary use hearing regarding HB 631 to November 3rd and sent out 2 releases announcing the new date to the public and private beachfront property owners. According to The Walton Sun, these 2 separate announcements are required to insure that Walton County can continue
to move forward with their effort to establish a new customary use ordinance.

The November 3rd public hearing will begin at 9:00 a.m., or as soon as possible to that time, at the South Walton High School located at 645 Greenway Trail, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Manatee spotted drinking from a hose

While waiting for the Destin Snorkel dolphin tour and seashell hunt, Jason Harwell and his family got to see a manatee up close at the docks. According to The Destin Log, a neighboring crew member had a hose in the water and was letting the manatee drink from it.

City of Mary Esther still discussing moving police and fire services

After not renewing a police services contract with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Mary Esther continues to discuss moving those services along with Fire Services to the City of Fort Walton Beach. Those services would have an initial annual combined cost of $1.4 million, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News. To read more on the proposed contract, click here.

Good Samaritan awarded for saving deputy

Sam Davilmar was rewarded for rescuing a deputy from an overturned car last week by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, Deputy Stephen Clark’s Dodge Charger patrol vehicle was overturned and landed upside down in a ditch after being struck by a vehicle attempting to make a U-turn. That’s when Davilmar ran from the Wendy’s across the street on Gulf Breeze Parkway and pried the door open. To read more on this amazing story, click here.
