Walton to map out beaches, Dead fish spark red tide fears + this weekend’s events!

To: Daily Rundown Readers

Thanks to HB 631, the importance of public beach access (and public beaches in general) is at an all time high in Walton County. According to the Walton Sun, Tourist Development Council head Jay Tusa presented the commissioners with nine land options that could be obtained to provide parking for beachgoers.

Currently, Walton County does not have accesses to all of their public beaches, but Tusa assured the commissioners that a comprehensive map showing what on the beach is considered publicly and privately owned would be created. To read more on this story, click here.

After hundreds of dead fish were seen floating Tuesday and Wednesday in Choctawhatchee Bay near Baytowne Marina, some began fearing that the cause was red tide. According to the Walton Sun, there has been no confirmation that red tide killed these fish with the latest report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission showing no presence of red tide in Walton County waters.
