As I was beginning to browse through the endless library that is Netflix, I popped open Facebook and saw Fort Walton Beach City Councilman Davis Schmidt post,
The bridge is funded and will not be a toll bridge. Excited about how the bridge will complement the around the mound concept that will forever transform the beautiful downtown FWB.
Last night at the Convention Center, the FDOT held a public hearing on the estimated $166.1 million Brooks Bridge replacement project that is anticipated to begin in 2022.
Based on public input and an evaluation of the alternatives, FDOT is recommending the new bridge be constructed to the north of the existing bridge due to fewer impacts to businesses and existing utilities. According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, four homes and 13 businesses might have to be moved.
At the western end of the new replacement bridge, several improvements are recommended at the US 98 and Perry Avenue intersection to enhance the operation of the intersection and to improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility, according to the presentation.
At the eastern end of the new replacement bridge, US 98 would need to be elevated over the existing intersection with Santa Rosa Boulevard due to the change in bridge height. Connector roadways would be used north and south of US 98 to provide access to and from Santa Rosa Boulevard.
A signalized partial intersection at US 98 approximately 500 feet to the east of the existing intersection would allow vehicles wanting to travel eastbound on US 98 the ability to safely make a right turn from the south connector roadway. Other improvements will help accommodate access to businesses, improve driver safety, and improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity.
New Keto bakery launches in Destin
As someone who just finished Whole30, the thought of eating a certain way right now doesn’t fit my agenda. However, I think this is a really good idea and am excited to see more specialty shops pop-up in our area. Keto Kreations, the brainchild of Destin residents Ashley and Jamie Ping, has opened. In an interview with The Destin Log, Ashley said that her “goodies comply with the keto diet because she uses almond and coconut flour, sugar substitutes and other keto-approved ingredients to make her desserts.” To read more on this new keto bakery, click here.
