THINGS TO DO
Fall Festival in Valparaiso on October 8th
On October 8th, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Perrine Park in front of the Heritage Museum, the City of Valparaiso & Community Center Steering Committee will host the 2022 Fall Festival.
Everyone is welcome to the Fall Festival which will feature a variety of vendors and food trucks. All additional vendors looking to set up around the park are welcome to participate. It costs $25 for a 10×10 space.
There will also be a chili contest for all to enjoy as well beginning at 1:00pm. While the tastings are free, there is a $10 entry fee for cook-off participants. The chef with the best chili will win a $100 gift card.

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARDWALK
Enjoy Movies on the Beach & a Beach Luau on Okaloosa Island
This week, you can enjoy back to back nights at The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island with two family-friendly events!
The free Movies on the Beach are shown on a large inflatable screen just behind Al’s Beach Club on Okaloosa Island. Grab a burger & fries or fresh Gulf seafood at any Boardwalk restaurant for dinner and a show.
- On Thursday, October 6 at 7:30pm, The Boardwalk will feature E.T. The Extra Terrestrial on the big screen!
In addition to the Thursday movies, Al’s Beach Club will host a “Beach Luau Party” on October 7th. The Friday night luau include live music by Tribe Zion, kids and adult limbo contests, leis, and a must-see Polynesian fire & dance performance on the beach.

MILITARY
Historic event honoring the Horse Soldiers of ODA 595 in Fort Walton Beach
On Saturday, October 22, 2022, the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce invites the community to join as they honor the Horse Soldiers of ODA 595 beginning at 5:30pm.
At this historical event, all eleven surviving Horse Soldiers will reunite for the first time at the Northwest Florida Fairgrounds in Fort Walton Beach.
- The movie 12 Strong was based on these men.
- It is an event not to be missed.
“The United States of America has been attacked twice,” said Ted Corcoran, President/CEO of Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce. “Pearl Harbor with the first group to retaliate being The Doolittle Raiders. September 11, 2001 with ODA 595 being the first in Afghanistan to defend OUR Country. Brave Bombers. Heroic Horsemen.”
With this upcoming event, the FWB Chamber of Commerce will be the only organization in the world who can say that they hosted the Final Reunion of the Doolittle Raiders (2013) and the FIRST reunion of the ODA 595 Horse Soldiers (2022).
- “We could not be more proud to share this opportunity with our Community,” added Corcoran.
General Admission Tickets are $100 and includes dinner, beer & wine. VIP tickets and corporate tables are available but limited.

A few more things you should know
- The 17-year-old who had an active warrant out for his arrest voluntarily surrendered without incident to Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies Monday morning in Crestview. He is a juvenile and was taken to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice per the warrant. Read more on why he was arrested.
- Coffee with a Cop: Community Resource Deputies from each district will meet with citizens over a cup of coffee today at 9am. No agendas, no speeches; just casual conversation with the Deputies who serve your community. This event will be held simultaneously in each of the districts across Okaloosa County to allow convenient access.

- Spooky Tales Pajama Storytime is happening at the Destin Library on October 18 at 6:00 p.m. with fun Halloween tales for children ages 8-11. Wear your favorite pajamas and bring your cozy to hug while Children’s Librarian, Laura Harris, reads tales for the season just right for elementary school students. Snacks will also be provided. You can register for this storytime at okaloosa.librarycalendar.com by clicking on the Spooky Tales event and filling out the registration form.
