Good morning!
I hope you slept well. I hope that if you were one of the few that lost power in Okaloosa County that it wasn’t for very long. I hope that if you evacuated that you make it back home safely. I hope you know how lucky we are…
As Hurricane Michael deteriorates back into a Tropical Storm over Georgia, our neighbors are dealing with devastation. As Michael made landfall with 150+mph winds, footage from Panama City and Mexico Beach almost immediately began making a viral sweep over social media. Videos showing the immense power of the storm and the complete destruction of some areas in the eastern counties.
According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, as of 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, about 99,000 of Gulf Power’s more than 103,000 customers in the greater Bay County area were without electricity. It could take at least a week to get some power restored to those people.
Aside from loss of power, Michael has also claimed the lives of 2 people. An 11-year-old in Georgia and a man in Gadsden County.
As we prepare to get back to our normal routine this week, let’s not forget about our neighbors. They will need our help for quite a while.
