Tuesday Hurricane Michael Updates, Sears in Mary Esther to close, Dead deer washes up on beach

Let’s start off with some Hurricane Michael relief effort updates:

Tyson Foods is giving away free meals at the Calloway Walmart. According to MyPanhandle.com, the company will be serving food and water starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Callaway Walmart parking lot.

Water to be turned on in Panama City. Bay County Emergency Management announced that master meters are being opened which allows water to flow from Bay County’s lines to Panama City water lines. This means some customers will begin to have running water. At this time, crews are working to locate and repair any water leaks which could affect water flow to some areas of the city. There is a Boil Water Notice in effect for all of Bay County so DO NOT DRINK the water.

FEMA has created a rumor control page on their website regarding Hurricane Michael. According to WEAR TV, the page addresses several rumors, including rumors about FEMA handing out vouchers for hotels and FEMA writing checks to survivors. Click here to view.

Phone, cell and internet service remains down or spotty. Gov. Rick Scott announced that more than 2,000 telecommunications professionals working in 200 Communication Technician Repair Crew Strike Teams are fully mobilized in impacted counties working to restore cellular service. AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile have deployed mobile cellular towers to provide service.

The Bay County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed four storm-related deaths, this number is subject to future updates.

All major roadways are clear at this time. Public Works traffic operations are working cut and toss operations to clear other roadways around the county and an inventory of needed traffic signal and sign repairs.

Bay County has 58,171 customers without power or 56 percent.

Report any suspected price gouging by calling 1-866-9-NO-SCAM (1-866-966-7226). Florida law prohibits extreme increases in the price of essential commodities such as food, water, hotels, ice, gasoline, lumber and equipment needed as a direct result of an officially declared emergency.

A dead deer washes up on the beach

Some weeks its drugs that wash up…others, it’s a dead deer. The Destin Log is reporting that the remains of a dead deer were found on Monday morning on Okaloosa Island. Click here to read more.

Sears will close at the Mall

Sears announced on Monday that the company had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and as a result, 142 stores will close. The store inside the Santa Rosa Mall being one of them. Click here to read more.
