Good morning!
For areas that were spared the impacts of Hurricane Michael, we are now experiencing somewhat of an economic boom. As The Destin Log points out, areas immediately feeling a boom are lodging, big-box building supply stores, laundromats and restaurants.
With so many businesses still closed to the east, our area (west) provides some normalcy for those who need an escape from Panama City. On the other-side, those heading into Panama City to help are going there with supplies from our local area. To read more on the change in our economy, click here.
Panama City News Herald to begin printing in Panama City again
The day after the Hurricane Michael I saw a few nasty Facebook posts to the Northwest Florida Daily News about their paper not being out the next day on time (both print and e-edition). While those complaints are incredibly unnecessary, I don’t think many knew that the Panama City printing press was severely damaged in Hurricane Michael. That’s where the Northwest Florida Daily News gets their paper printed. After the storm, they had to source the printing out of Montgomery.
Well, the printing press DID print the Herald’s “The Entertainer” edition and was hoping to have their local paper printed on Sunday. The newspapers for Chipley, Destin, Santa Rosa/Milton, Fort Walton, Crestview, Apalachicola, and Port St. Joe will follow after. Even if you don’t subscribe to the paper (or read a newspaper at all) this is a big feat so congrats to the News Herald!
Standoff ends peacefully
According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, deputies responded to the 300 block of Billfish Avenue at approximately 1:20 a.m. after a call that 26-year-old Jason Wade Hamby had barricaded himself in the home after threatening his wife and her friend with a gun. Thankfully the standoff ended around 5:30 a.m. when Hamby was taken into custody. To read more coverage of the standoff, click here.
