Teens involved in drive-by shooting and high-speed chase
In yesterday’s Rundown we reported on the high-speed chase that ended on Okaloosa Island. Now, 3 teens have been arrested and charged in that high-speed chase that started after shots were fired from a vehicle driving through the Walmart parking lot in Destin about 3:20 p.m. According to a report from The Destin Log, the car included a 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, who all face felony charges.
Witnesses stated a young male fired approximately three shots from the passenger side of a black sedan. Witnesses also stated that the rear passenger fired from the vehicle before it fled heading west.
Deputies located the suspect vehicle on Commons Drive and attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle accelerated and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the passenger threw a firearm from the vehicle which was recovered by deputies and determined to be stolen. The suspect vehicle struck another vehicle as it turned off Highway 98 onto Beach Drive. No one was injured in the crash.

Red tide is still here
There was hope that Hurricane Michael would help rid our area of red tide but red tide is still being found in medium and/or high concentrations in Santa Rosa County according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. According to the Walton Sun, thousands of dead bait fish have washed up on the dock of a Miramar Beach resident who lives on Bayshore Drive. To read more on the washed-up fish, click here.
Davidson Middle School student arrested after making threat
A 12-year old Davidson Middle School student has been arrested after a threatening message was written on the mirror and wall of a school restroom.
The girl is charged with written threats to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, a second degree felony.
A School Resource Officer was notified yesterday that a written threat had been discovered in the girls’ bathroom stating “I’m shooting up the school Friday!!” The School Resource Officer was able to identify the student who wrote the threat by reviewing video footage from outside the restroom doors. The student admitted to writing the threat and stated she wrote it because she had been unable to prepare for an upcoming test on Friday and hoped school would be closed.
Sheriff Larry Ashley emphasizes that the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has a zero tolerance policy for threats of school violence.
