Good morning!
The Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections Office has been receiving complaints of text messages sent to early voters saying that their vote wasn’t counted. According to WEAR TV, this is happening in other parts of Florida too. The Supervisor of Elections office had this to say:
- Your voter file is public record, including phone number and email. Political parties are exempt from FCC rules limiting companies from texting you without your consent.
- The content of these messages tend to have inaccurate or misleading information.
- You can always contact the Supervisor of Elections office by phone, email, or in person if you question the status of your record and other official election material.
If you have or do receive a text message that looks like it came from the Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections Office, please know that it is not. They won’t contact you that way.
Slow down for the linemen
After 3 linemen were struck by a driver and killed on State 77 Wednesday night, Gulf Power has spoken out regarding the safety of the men and women trying to restore power to our eastern neighbors. In a statement to WEAR TV, Jeff Rogers said:
So tragic I mean those are our brothers and sisters. You know [they] are not part of the gulf power contingent of crews in another utility but still it hits you right in the gut. The danger is real. Working along the roadsides is as dangerous [and we’re] working on the powers lines. The move law is supposed to protect our crews. If you can’t move over in a lane you’re supposed to slow down to 20 mph certainly when you see people working on the side of the road .
The driver that struck the 3 utility workers as they were standing in a ditch attempting to restore power fled the scene. He was captured by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and has been charged with felony DUI manslaughter, felony vehicular homicide, and felony leaving the scene of an accident. Additionally, U.S. 98 eastbound, between the western boundary of Henderson Beach State Park and Matthew Boulevard, will be shifted to the north in early November. All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling in a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
