FWB Tech Park could see some changes, Customary use hearing No. 2, Locals unite through Facebook

To: Daily Rundown Readers

The Fort Walton Beach Commerce & Technology Park over the years has had its ups and downs. Growing up (I’m 32), the area was extremely busy. My parents worked in the Park and my brother and I went to the daycare on Anchors.

But businesses have come and go and the Park seems to have just…remained.

But there is hope! The City of Fort Walton Beach is looking to help breathe new life back into the Commerce & Technology Park, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News. In their report, City Manager Michael Beedie suggested setting up a Community Redevelopment Agency or business improvement district at Technology Park that could generate money to help pay for improvements to the park.

The Commerce and Technology Park is also part of the City’s Master Plan.

According to the City of Fort Walton Beach, the Master Planning process will take into consideration the evolving nature of technology, demographic changes within the region, changes in the attitudes and desires in our natural resource base, the opportunity to continue to grow the presence of the defense industry, and add alternative, research and development, and educational industries.

The City believes that in order to redevelop the Commerce and Technology Park, they must think outside the traditional Commerce and Technology Park framework.

Customary use hearing is looking good

Ok people…Walton County’s second attempt at a public hearing is looking good! After a mishap previously, the hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at South Walton High School at 645 Greenway Trail in Santa Rosa Beach.

According to the Walton Sun, the Saturday meeting will likely  include a vote by the commission on whether to formalize its notice of intent “to affirm the existence of a recreational customary use on private property.”
