Niceville teen arrested after threatening to shoot up school

A 17-year old Niceville High School student has been charged with making a school threat. The teen was arrested yesterday after a fellow student reported to her School Resource Officer that the teen told her Tuesday that he planned “to shoot up the school” on Halloween.

During an interview yesterday, the student admitted making that statement but said he was “joking around and did not mean it”.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has made it clear that they have a zero tolerance policy for individuals making school threats. The charge of making a false report concerning the use of firearms in a violent manner is a second degree felony.

Alys Beach and Seaside make “Most Beautiful Small Towns in America” list

In a newly published article from the Architectural Digest, both Alys Beach and Seaside have made their list of “Most Beautiful Small Towns in America”.

The list included 50 towns with a population of less than 10,000 residents.

For Alys Beach, the article described the area as a “design-centric, New Urbanism village along the Gulf of Mexico in Florida’s Panhandle region, with whitewashed buildings and Bermuda-style architecture with courtyards, fountains, pools, and popped-out shutters.”

And for Seaside, “Brightly colored cottages are a short walk to the downtown, with Airstream food trucks, an indie bookstore, art galleries, and seafood eateries.”

Severe weather risk today

According to WEAR TV, rain will begin this morning and will quickly become widespread through midday. The storm threat will leave the area before sunset. BUT…

Heavy rain is a primary threat as we could see isolated flash flooding with 2-4 inches of rain possible. WEAR further reports that our severe weather threat goes beyond rainfall with damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes all being possible.

Stay safe on the roads out there today and keep an eye on your local weather source.
