The Battle continues in Walton County
The new customary use law that went into effect July 1st in Walton County, allows beachfront home owners the right to claim the beach in front of their homes as private property. In turn, The Destin Log has reported that a deputy had been called by homeowners in Vizcaya, a multimillion dollar gated beachfront community, who wanted to enforce trespassing laws on the beach in front of their homes. The family that the deputy paid the visit to said that they got confused about signage and were unaware of where the “public” beach met the “private”. Additionally, a video started going viral on Sunday afternoon showing Deputies arriving to the beach to talk with real estate attorney Daniel Uhlfelder who was potentially “trespassing” on private beach property. In the 9 minute video, Uhlfelder tries to get the Deputies to help clearly define where the public property starts according to the “wet sand line” .
