An apparent tornado struck the city of Crestview early Friday morning, resulting in widespread damage and prompting emergency response from city services, according to the Crestview Police Department.

The apparent tornado led to multiple road blockages, damage to buildings and residences, and downed trees and power lines throughout the city. Authorities are urging residents to exercise extreme caution when navigating the roadways and to avoid approaching downed power lines, which should be reported to respective power companies.

City services are currently assessing the extent of the damage and responding to road closures, structural emergencies, and hazards. The Crestview Police Department has requested that residents limit the reporting of damage to emergencies and life-threatening situations only, to allow emergency responders to prioritize their efforts.

As of 6:05 a.m., the full scope of the damage caused by the reported tornado is still being determined. Residents are advised to stay informed and follow the guidance of local authorities as more information becomes available.

“We’ve experienced significant storm damage; it is concentrated north of the Highway 85 and 90 intersection,” said City Manager Tim Bolduc. “For your safety, please stay off the road as there are trees down all over town.“

All City facilities will have a delayed opening until 9:00am on May 10.
