On Tuesday morning, the Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the use of golf carts on on certain roads within the Poquito Bayou neighborhood.

Background: Residents in District 2 expressed interest in the use of golf carts on County roads in-and-around the Poquito Bayou area. Residents of the area that own golf carts would like to have them available as a means of neighborhood transportation.

Currently: The use of golf carts on county roadways is currently allowed within specific neighborhoods on low volume County roadways.

  • Golf cart has to be on a road where the speed limit is 25 MPH or less.
  • Driver has to have a valid driver license, or be at least 14 and supervised by a holder of a driver license who is 21 years of age or older.
  • A golf cart may be operated on county-maintained roads only between the hours of 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset.
  • A golf cart may not be operated upon Poquito Road north of Holley Avenue nor upon Sunset Lane east of Hillcrest Drive and signs shall be posted to notify drivers of this restriction.

This is expected to go into effect by August 15th.
