According to Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers, Destin officials discovered graffiti on the “Welcome To Destin” sign at the foot of the Marler Bridge Tuesday morning.

“A library employee noticed the graffiti around 8am this morning on her drive into Destin and contacted our Public Services Department”, said Catherine Card, Public Information Manager for the City of Destin. “Crews went out to evaluate the damage and attempts to remove the graffiti from the banner only resulted in further damage. We had an extra banner on hand and planned to use it as a replacement after the summer season. The banner was replaced shortly before 1pm today.

For as long as the sign has been there, this is the first time that it has been vandalized.

A report has been filed with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about who might have vandalized the sign can contact Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers anonymously at (850) 863-TIPS, at www.emeraldcoastcrimestoppers.com or submit a tip via the P3 Tips Mobile App.

The iconic sign was just replaced in April of 2019.
