On Friday, while sitting in the veterinarian’s office with my overly excited German Shepherd/Lab, I posted this question on Facebook: “What’s the one thing you would like to see become a reality in Okaloosa County?”
- Thirty minutes later I checked my phone and had received 100 comments. As of this morning, there are nearly 1,000 comments between the Facebook and Instagram posts.
You may follow Get The Coast on social media and already saw this, but I know many that still don’t. (Maybe you missed it!).
I’d love to get your thoughts on this too.
Leave us a comment on this post and let me know what you would like to see become a reality in Okaloosa County. I’ll be compiling all of this for an upcoming story.

Traffic relief in the north of the county. I realize the connect is in progress but the addition of new houses already will max out the connect or new construction. It is awful but seems like for years the north end gets neglected and all the dollars are in the south end of our county. No dirt roads in the south or Destin.
For Niceville, a dedicated right turn lane from Redwood Ave to Hwy 20 (John Sims Pkwy).
At the traffic light, on the opposite side, there is a dedicated right turn lane coming from Starbucks.
The Redwood Ave access has heavy traffic with right turns lining up 5-10 vehicles back. The side of the road is eroded from vehicles merging to line-up for the turn.
When the CEFCO was built we expected the lane to be added, but no luck.
The trumpers all leave
Is this the Bob I think it is? My reply is: The Biden-Harris’ leftists all leave! 🙂
Better home
Insurance rates and lower property taxes!
A traffic light coming out of Calusa Bay Rt 98 Destin. Accidents abound with motorists crossing over Rt 98 while others looking to turn right or left with three cars sharing the same space in the intersection…..total chaos!
A commuter trolley, tram or train, something on rails, so it can’t get tied up with traffic like a bus. With scheduled service from Crestview to “the beaches”; spur line express stops at Duke, Eglin and Hurlburt during rush hours.
Some beautiful landscaping in medians and enforced beautification of business properties in FWB and surrounding…similar to Destin and Niceville. FWB area looks very unkempt.
Family in Panhandle since 1920:
First of all, g’bye Bob, glad to see you leave our free State…
Secondly, whoever reset all the traffic lights on Emerald Hwy. 98 should be forced to retire or find another job. We have never seen off-season traffic so backed up not only on the feeder streets but Hwy. 98 in Destin to Sandestin. When the season starts in April-May, it is going to be a parking lot at every light. People are avoiding 98 and flooding onto Commons, please have someone do a traffic study and return to somewhat normal heavy traffic!!
I SECOND THIS AND HOPE MANY OTHERS DO TO:
“First of all, g’bye Bob, glad to see you leave our free State…”
Contact Randy Showers PhD at Okaloosa Cty Transportation Dept.
Additional beach access, additional watercraft launches and public parks. Attention to commercial building permits in regard to parking spaces per business capacity.
I would like to see a community pool in the FWB/Mary Esther area like the aquatic center in Destin. The Bernie is nice but it is too small for everyone that wants to use it, especially in the evening hours, after work.
A nice dog beach would be nice, too.
FORT WALTON BEACH RESTORATION PROJECT TO ENHANCE OUR BEAUTIFUL CITY AND ATTRACT MORE BUSINESSES AND RESTAURANTS. LET’S TURN HWY 98 DOWNTOWN INTO AN OUTDOOR WALKING MALL AND REROUTE THE TRAFFIC AROUND THE OLD DOWNTOWN AREA AND OVER THE BROOKS BRIDGE. IT NEEDS DECORATIVE FOUNTAINS AND SOME RESTAURANTS, SHOPS, AND NIGHTLIFE ! PLEASE HELP RESTORE FWB BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. IT CAN BE A GEM IN THE MAKING FOR THE RIGHT INVESTOR!
