On Friday, April 21, 2021, a 62-year old pedestrian was left with life-threatening injuries following a collision with a black Honda Civic on US Highway 98 near East Timberlake Drive in Mary Esther, Florida.
- According to a report released by the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 6:40am as the pedestrian attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of the highway.
Witnesses at the scene stated that a line of cars in the right lane slowed down suddenly when the pedestrian began to run north across the eastbound lanes. A car in front of the Honda Civic swerved to avoid hitting the pedestrian, who then entered the lane of the oncoming Civic.
- Despite the driver’s efforts to avoid the pedestrian, the individual was struck by the front of the vehicle.
Following the collision, both the Honda Civic and the pedestrian came to a stop in the median east of the area of impact. Emergency responders were quickly on the scene, and the pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their life-threatening injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol conducted interviews with witnesses to gather further information about the incident. The pedestrian was ultimately cited for failure to yield to traffic on the roadway.
