POLICE: 87-year-old man suffers self-inflicted gunshot wound at White-Wilson Medical Center

Fort Walton Beach Police responded to White-Wilson Medical Center Tuesday morning after an elderly man reportedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

An 87-year-old man reportedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a medical center Tuesday morning, prompting a response from local police and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Fort Walton Beach Police Department.

  • Officers responded to the White-Wilson Medical Center at 1005 Mar Walt Drive at approximately 11:07 a.m. on Oct. 21, 2025, following a report of shots fired, the department said in a press release.

Upon arrival, officers determined the elderly man had sustained a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the release. The man was quickly given aid and transported by Okaloosa County EMS to HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment, police said.

Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the incident, according to the department. Authorities stated there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the public or the medical center.
