After closing the regular season with back-to-back losses to Gulf Breeze and Navarre, Crestview softball looked like itself again Wednesday night, knocking off Horizon 5-1 to advance to the Sweet 16.
- Horizon struck first when Kendall McCaffery singled home Morgyn Welch, but the Lady Bulldogs answered with five unanswered runs and never looked back.
Cambell Toolan tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI triple that scored Ava Secor, and Crestview broke things open in the second. Tianna Hill led off with a single, Makenzie Muse drew a walk, and Secor followed with a two-run double.
Secor later came around to score on an RBI single from Riley Copeland. Anna Balk, pinch-hitting for MacKenzie Toth, capped the inning with a sacrifice groundout that brought Copeland home.
Toolan handled the rest, allowing just two more hits the rest of the way to seal the win.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to Pace on Tuesday in the Sweet 16. The Lady Patriots advanced with a 9-0 win over Nease on Wednesday and previously beat Crestview 9-0 on March 10 in Pace.
