The Destin Dolphins Pee Wee Tackle Football Team brought home a championship trophy for the first time in what could be decades after defeating Jackson County 19-6 in the 2025 Super Bowl.

  • Mayor Bobby Wagner recognized the team at the beginning of Monday night’s Destin city council meeting, presenting each player with a commemorative coin for their accomplishment.

“Tonight we want to introduce you to our Super Bowl winning 2025 Destin Dolphin Pee Wee Tackle Football Team,” Wagner said. “It wasn’t even close, they didn’t have a chance,” he added, referring to the championship game.

The Dolphins finished the regular season with a 7-1 record and earned the number 2 seed in the West Division. The team advanced through the playoffs by defeating Freeport in the second round and Shalimar in the third round before securing the Super Bowl victory.

Head coach Joe Cope leads the team, with Brandon Knox serving as co-coach. Knox spoke at the recognition ceremony in Cope’s absence.

  • “I just want to thank the parents again for such a special year. All the hard work these kids put in,” Knox said. “I appreciate you guys [Council] for recognizing their accomplishments. I was told it’s been multiple decades since the Destin team has brought home a Super Bowl winning trophy.”

Knox called each player forward individually to receive their coin from the mayor during the ceremony.
