Julia Milz, a senior at Niceville High School, was named Distinguished Young Woman of Okaloosa County for 2027 during the annual scholarship competition held July 18 at the Fort Walton Beach Civic Auditorium.

  • Milz earned the title after competing alongside seven other high school seniors from across Okaloosa County. Participants were evaluated in five categories: scholastics (25%), interview (25%), talent (20%), fitness (15%) and self-expression (15%). She received $3,500 in scholarships.

“Being named the Distinguished Young Woman of Okaloosa County is an incredible honor that speaks to Julia’s character and promise,” said Amy Meyer, principal of Niceville High School. “I am extremely proud to have her as a part of our school family. I look forward to watching her continue to excel during her senior year at Niceville High School and beyond.”

Milz will represent Okaloosa County throughout the coming year at community events and at the Distinguished Young Women of Florida State Finals in January 2027.

Superintendent Marcus Chambers said Milz’s selection reflects her academic excellence, leadership and dedication.

  • “We are honored to celebrate her accomplishments and know she will represent Niceville High School, the Okaloosa County School District, and our community with pride throughout the coming year,” Chambers said.

The Distinguished Young Women program recognizes young women who exemplify academic excellence, leadership and character while promoting its national outreach message, “Be Your Best Self,” which encourages young people to be healthy, be involved, be studious, be ambitious and be responsible.

The 70th Distinguished Young Women National Finals will be held June 24-26, 2027, in Mobile, Alabama, where state representatives from across the country will compete for the title of America’s Distinguished Young Woman for 2027.
