Sinkhole closes northbound lanes at Beal Parkway intersection in Fort Walton Beach

Northbound lanes at Beal Parkway and Mary Esther Cutoff in Fort Walton Beach have been closed Tuesday after a sinkhole opened in the roadway and brought down power lines.

  • Fort Walton Beach Police Department units are on scene directing traffic around the hazard. Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

“FWBPD units are assisting with a traffic hazard caused by a sinkhole at Beal Pkwy and Water St,” police said. “A sinkhole has caused northbound lanes to become blocked as well as power lines down. Please avoid the area.”

No timeline has been provided for when the roadway will reopen. The cause of the sinkhole has not been determined.

  1. Is anyone gonna talk about the connection joints of that culvert !! That’s crazy I hope the installation team and licensing team gets fired. That construction took forever too. But how did it pass inspection with that culvert connection ? Easy to pass the blame.

    1. Are they the black plastic bits wrapped/dangling around the exposed ends of the separated drainage pipe pieces?
