Suds N Cinema will host six nights of special screenings of the 1989 film “Steel Magnolias” next week to raise money for the Fort Walton Beach Public Library.
- The screenings, inspired by Dolly Parton’s lifelong commitment to literacy, will run Sept. 2-7 at the historic downtown movie house at 174 Miracle Strip Pkwy SE. Doors open at 6 p.m. with showtime at 6:30 p.m.
All ticket sales will benefit the library’s community programs, youth literacy initiatives and expanding media catalog. Patrons will also be able to donate at the theater.
Guests can choose from three ticket levels: Classic Movie Admission at $5, Steel Magnolia Supporter at $10 and Dolly’s Circle Benefactor at $15.
Kim Luckie, the theater’s new Owner and a Fort Walton Beach native, said the event connects to a founding principle she set when preparing to acquire the venue. Months before taking over, Luckie noted in her journal an intention to mirror Parton’s balance of commerce and community service.
“Public libraries are the backbone of strong communities, providing free access to learning and literacy tools for every resident,” Luckie said. “Using our screen to champion the Fort Walton Beach Public Library in Dolly Parton’s honor allows us to ensure our local library has the financial backing it needs to keep serving our neighborhood.”
During the screenings, patrons can order from Suds N Cinema’s menu of house-made pizzas, hot paninis, concession favorites and beverages served to their theater seats.

Suds N Cinema, located in downtown Fort Walton Beach, is a historic entertainment venue originally constructed in 1940.
