Week 2 was just as exciting as Week 1, with highlights up and down the schedule.

From South Walton making a statement with a running-clock win over Fort Walton Beach, to Baker reminding everyone it is still a contender in Class 1A, to Adron Robinson and Bobby Johns earning their first wins as head coaches at their respective schools, it was an action-packed week of football.

Here are the highlights.

Niceville 41, West Florida Tech 14

Adron Robinson picked up his first win as Niceville head coach Thursday night as the Eagles overcame a sloppy first quarter and tight first half to pull away in a dominant second-half performance against West Florida Tech.

Jakobe Gilyard led the way on the ground, while the Deegan McCoy-to-Caleb Leonard connection proved lethal through the air. After trailing early and heading into halftime up 20-14, the Eagles put the game away in the third quarter and cruised to the 41-14 final.

South Walton 35, Fort Walton Beach 0

South Walton rolled to a 35-0 running-clock victory over Fort Walton Beach at Steve Riggs Stadium to improve to 2-0. JD Brown connected with Treiy Crenshaw and Carter Hawk for first-quarter touchdowns, and Connor Rooney added a wildcat score before halftime to put it out of reach. Max Madden tacked on two rushing touchdowns in the second half. Through two games, the Seahawks have outscored opponents 85-0.

“Defense is phenomenal,” Head Coach Phil Tisa said. “You look at it right now, we’re 85-0 on the season so far, so that’s a heck of a performance.”

Auburn 31, Choctaw 21

Choctaw went toe-to-toe with No. 6-ranked Auburn, a Class 6A program out of Alabama, in a 31-21 loss at Joe Etheredge Stadium. The Indians showed significant improvement from their Week 1 outing at Mosley, with Carter Marracco providing the big plays, including a 62-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter, and Isaiah Collins showing promise at quarterback, connecting with Brody Combs for a touchdown in the second half. Choctaw pulled within one score twice in the second half, but Auburn answered each time.

“We’ve gotten better each week in a lot of different areas,” Head Coach Frank Beasley said. “We just can’t seem to put it all together yet.”

Baker 35, Destin 13

Baker showed it is still very much a contender in Class 1A. After a season-opening loss to Jay, the Gators responded with a complete performance against a Destin team that came in riding momentum from a 53-13 win over Port St. Joe.

Calvin Wilks III turned in a hat trick, rushing for 162 yards and three touchdowns. Dawson Mitchem added 106 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, while Baker’s defense clamped down on the Sharks’ offense. Kellen Ramsey was held to a 40.7 percent completion rate, and Donnie Couitt was one of the few bright spots offensively for Destin.

Walton 41, Arnold 6

The Braves continue to roll. Walton picked up another running-clock victory, this time against Arnold, and has now outscored opponents 93-13 through two games.

Rodney Clinch set the tone with a rushing touchdown to give the Braves a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Arnold tied it up, but a Whitton West-to-Eli Odom touchdown before halftime gave the Braves the lead for good. Clinch added another rushing touchdown, West broke free for a 24-yard rushing score and then connected with Tristan Powell for another touchdown as Walton cruised to the win.

Freeport 55, North Bay Haven 27

Bobby Johns earned his first win as Freeport head coach Friday night against North Bay Haven.

The Bulldogs quickly stormed out to a 21-0 lead with Dylan Louthain securing a hat trick early, scoring all three of those touchdowns. The Buccaneers narrowed it to one score with two unanswered touchdowns, but Louthain responded to put Freeport back up by two scores.

North Bay Haven answered with a 78-yard rushing touchdown from Sean Williams Jr., but just before halftime, Louthain scored again. The Buccaneers simply could not keep up from there as Louthain added another touchdown on the ground and Xavier Smith found Parker Mayfield for a score as the Bulldogs pulled away for the 55-27 win.

Enterprise 56, Crestview 12

An elite Enterprise squad proved to be too much for Crestview on Friday night.

The Bulldogs struck first with a Jaden Goldsmith rushing touchdown, but Enterprise blocked the ensuing extra-point attempt from Elijah Rice. In the second quarter, Enterprise quarterback Mac Houston found Darrian Beauford for a touchdown and converted the extra point to take a 7-6 lead it would not relinquish.

The Wildcats exploded in the second half, with Houston throwing six more touchdown passes. Crestview added a score in the fourth quarter when Brock Spears connected with Rayshaun Cargle for a touchdown, but Enterprise had already taken firm control and triggered running clock.

Joshua Christian Academy 28, Rocky Bayou 14

Joshua Christian Academy rallied for a 28-14 win over the Knights on Friday night.

Rocky Bayou got on the board early with an Isaiah Gayle rushing touchdown, but Joshua Christian answered with 28 unanswered points to take full control. Matix Villagomez added a rushing touchdown for the Knights, but Joshua Christian held on for the win.
