Yesterday I talked with the City of Destin’s Public Information Manager Catherine Card regarding Clement Taylor Park. According to Card, there has been a lot of misinformation online regarding the possible addition of a Fire substation being added to the park.

While the Destin Fire Control District does want to add a substation on the park’s property, it will not completely take over the park. In fact, it will only lease a 0.15-acre piece of land on the southeast corner of the city-owned, 3.4-acre park, according to the Destin Log.

According to the Fire Department, the substation would help firefighters respond more quickly to emergencies on the west side of town, as well as to water-rescue calls in the Gulf of Mexico, East Pass and Choctawhatchee Bay, the latter which includes Crab Island.

The motion to pass the lease was ultimately tabled by the city council after hearing from so many residents and council agreed to schedule a workshop in order to hear more public input.

We also talk about summer programs and sports tournaments starting back.
