An eighth-grader at Bruner Middle School is being celebrated after earning a perfect score on a statewide math competition — and treating his entire class to tacos in the process.

  • Jake Revette, a student in Dr. Norma Eliason’s class was selected as one of three winners across Florida in Math Nation’s Test Yourself contest, which ran through November and December. The competition drew approximately 41,000 participants statewide.

Revette earned a perfect 10/10 score on his Algebra 1 Unit 6 Test Yourself assessment. Students who scored 6/10 or higher were entered into a random drawing for prizes, but Revette’s flawless performance made his selection especially notable.

As part of the prize, Math Nation provided a fully catered taco party for Revette’s entire class.

“Jake’s dedication and effort are inspiring, and we are thrilled to celebrate not only his achievement but also the excitement and energy it brings to the entire class,” Principal Heather Graham-Williams said. “Recognition like this helps foster a love of learning and shows our students that hard work pays off.”

Superintendent Marcus Chambers praised both the student and the school’s academic culture.

  • “Jake’s achievement is a great example of what happens when students apply themselves and embrace learning with enthusiasm,” Chambers said. “We’re incredibly proud of him and the entire Bruner Middle School community for fostering a culture where academic success is celebrated.”

Kimberly Landtroop from Math Nation said the Test Yourself contest is designed to connect academic effort with meaningful incentives.

“Students engage with formative assessments, reflect on their learning, and build confidence through scaffolded video solutions and multiple opportunities to retry,” Landtroop said. “Celebrations like a taco party reinforce a positive culture around math learning and reward persistence and growth.”
